CAPSTONE THESIS

The inspiration behind my capstone was the controversy surrounding Emily Ratajkowski and her book, My Body. Her book preaches about loving your body and beauty and how her experiences show that she is not just a pretty face. I have come across numerous perspectives where people are missing the message of her book. Much of what she preaches doesn't translate to some of her actions. Her line only has sizes XS-XL and creates styles that cater to a specific body type. In my project I aimed to develop an inclusive and sustainable swimwear line that further pushes her message of embracing body love.

The project was to take inspiration from a current international magazine; my group chose Heroine Magazine. We were also asked to act as a real magazine and assign jobs to each member, and I served as editor in chief for the project's duration.

Revel in Joy is a mock fashion short film done for the New Media Methods for Retail and Digital Spaces class for the Savannah College of Art and Design. As students, it was our job to simulate creating an actual editorial film for a beauty or fragrance company. For the duration of the project I acted as Producer, Creative Director, and on set Project Manager. Where I worked on set design and carefully following the shot list. The concept creates a memory through scent that coincides with celebrating the importance of joy for black women.

Innovation isn’t always about a launching a new product. My partner and I chose, Homesick, a candle and home lifestyle brand to leverage an existing product to create an innovative integrated marketing campaign. This campaign includes attracting a new consumer, reengaging current consumers, and growing market share. We leveraged an animal rights issue to create our integrated marketing campaign.

FASHION EDITORIAL CONCEPT

Beach CAMP was conceptualized from the motions of the oceans. The concept brings forth the rainbow oil spills to the beautiful colors of the coral reefs. This project was created for my Textiles class at the Savannah College of Art and Design. 

Beach CAMP Resort is an extension line with physically knitted pattern swatches. Knits are photoshopped into garment design to represent the physical textile.
